Summer at Buda Castle
15. July - 6. August 2006
It is the tenth year the series of programs organised under the title Summer at Buda Castle are being held as a result of the cooperation of the Honvéd Company, the Institute and Museum of Military History and the Heroic Epic Foundation, to provide quality entertainment in the summer for anyone living or visiting Budapest.
The usual program structure of the Summer at Buda Castle was kept in 2006 as well, for the organisers wished to keep the continuity of the program series in the tenth year as well. However, this year - as it is the 320th anniversary of the recapturing of the Buda Castle from the Turks - a greater emphasis is laid on the revival of military traditions. So beside the various cultural programs, the historic military shows of the affiliate organisations of Baranta Society will also enliven Buda Castle this summer.
The cultural events of Summer at Buda Castle will be organised on four weekends this year. On Friday nights music programs (operetta, folk music, jazz and a renaissance evening) and a literary evening (in association with the Association of Young Authors) await the interested audience. The music programs will take place at the court of the Institute of Military History, while the literary evenings are held in the sanctuary of the Magdolna tower. Dance shows and concerts are organised for Saturday evenings. The dance shows include the performance of the Honvéd Dance Ensemble (Bartók's Path) and the performance of the Budapest Dance Company entitled Csárdás - the Tango of the East. There is going to be a large-scale gala opera concert, and on the commemoration day of the victory at Nándorfehérvár an oratory by Rezső Sugár entitled Hunyadi - a Heroic Epic will be performed with the participation of the Ernő Dohnányi Symphonic Orchestra of Budafok, the Honvéd Male Chorus and the National Chorus. On Saturday afternoons shows (model show, dog fair, handicraft open-air market, craft shows, folk music and dance performances and gastronomic shows) related to the given historic age will await anyone interested. On Sundays beside the above, there will be programs especially organised for children: playhouses reviving traditional crafts, wall climbing contest, street theatre performances, and the shows of the Honvéd Company and the Budapest Dance Company designed for children.
While for the professional theatrical performances and concerts tickets will have to be purchased, there will be several free programs on offer as well.
